How does this work?

To borrow a sari, follow three easy steps:

1. Choose a sari from our collection to borrow that is available during the time you are looking for, (you can have the sari for seven days from the start date you select).

2. Choose a matching blouse for purchase -- our saristas will help you!

3. Choose any accessories you would like the day -- again our saristas are ready to help! You borrow the sari and petticoat, and buy the blouse and accessories. After checkout, we will ship the sari, blouse, petticoat, and accessories to you.

You will receive a USPS box with Sari Closet tape on one side - open this side only, so that you can use the same box to ship the sari back to Sari Closet.

After your seven days are up, ship back the sari and petticoat with the label provided and the same USPS box that you received, and keep your blouse and accessories for the next time you borrow a sari from Sari Closet!

How long can I keep the sari?

You can have the sari for 7 days, starting on the start date you selected. This means that if you select June 20th for your sari, you don't have to mail it back to us until the 27th.

If you need more time, just give us a call and we'll work something out for you.

How will I know that the sari will fit me?

Saris and petticoats are one-size-fits-all and wrap around your body. Our blouses come in three standard sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. Each blouse also has room to be taken in on the sides, and has been designed with a draw-string at the top to customize its shape to your body.

Do I need to wear a blouse?

Going 'bare' by wearing just a tube top or strapless bra would likely be seen in poor taste by others.  For that reason, we recommend a blouse, or at the very least a matching tank top. We chose to dress our models without a blouse to allow customers the creativity to imagine the sari with a blouse of their choice.

Will Sari Closet teach me how to wear a sari?

Absolutely! We have a video from our Sarista Interns that shows you how to put on a sari. You can see it at:

We hope you understand - we need make sure that our saris are in top form for the next borrower.

How do I return the sari to you?

After your borrowing period, ship back the sari and the matching petticoat with the label provided in the same USPS box that you received.

Can't find your return label?

Not to worry, just print out this return label, tape it to the box the sari came in, and drop it off at your local US Post Office. Or you can always email us at enquiry@saricloset.com.

Need a New Box?

If the box you received your sari in can't be re-used for whatever reason, you can always use a Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box-O-FRB2 available at your local US Post Office.

Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box-O-FRB2

If you would like to call your local office to make sure they have one before you go, simply visit their post office locator, enter your zip code, and click on the location most convenient to you.  Then you can bring your return label, the sari, and the petticoat and take care of everything in one trip!

Zero! Sari Closet pays for all of the shipping costs associated with sari rentals. Plus, we'll even send you a confirmation email with your tracking number so you know precisely where your order is. Sweet, right?. The only shipping we charge is if you only order a blouse or if you want your blouse to arrive early. Then we charge $5.50 for priority mail shipping.

We process your order as soon as we receive it, however getting your order to your doorstep takes a few more steps. If your order includes a sari rental, your order will arrive on the day you have selected as your arrival date. Otherwise, all orders should arrive 7-10 business days from the day you place your order. But we promise to aim for sooner!

Nope! Our specialists will expertly dry-clean each sari before borrowing periods. After each borrowing period, we will use stringent quality controls to ensure that our saris are clean and ready to be worn for the next person to borrow.

Do you carry +Sizes?

Generally we think of our saris as one size fits-all, but there is a caveat which we want to explain.

In terms of the saris, there are three components to the outfit: the blouse, the petticoat, and the sari itself. The sari itself is 44 inches wide by 6 yards, and will essentially fit anyone, unless you're particularly tall, and you need more than ~40 inches from your waist to your feet. For the blouses, the sizes are listed below and on the blouse pages, if those don't work for you, you can substitute a tank top or a different blouse that does fit. If you're close to one of the size of blouse below, they are made to be tailored and we can ship it to you early so you can do that.

Measurements (inches)
Size Length Bust Waist Arm Length Arm Circum.
Small (32-34) 15 34 28 4 11.5
Medium (36-38) 15.5 37 33 5 12.5
Large (40-42) 16 42 35.5 5 14.5

For the petticoat, they're under the sari, so length is not as much of an issue, and they can accommodate a waist size of 38".

What's the difference between 'Sari' and 'Saree'?

Nothing! They are different spellings that refer to the same garment. The saristas at Sari Closet use these terms interchangeably and you'll often see both spellings on our site. The two words are the orthographic analog of pronouncing the word 'potato,' 'poh-tay-toh' or 'poh-tah-toh.'
